San Francisco-based Vendini has expanded to Petaluma less than 12 months since its acquisition of Sebastopol-based InTicketing, whose specialty is online and box-office ticketing for music venues, promoters, and festivals. "Vendini really sees Petaluma as...a gateway into the booming community of arts and culture of Sonoma County," notes former InTicketing CEO Stephen Weisz. He says the expansion enables Vendini to broaden its Bay Area operations outside of the urban hassles facing Silicon Valley and San Francisco businesses, such as high rents. "It's an alternative to working in the city for people who think it's too busy and too expensive," says Vendini's Kate Swee. In March, Vendini reported its online ticketing technology had been used by customers to sell more than $1 billion in tickets, with 25 percent of those sales occurring last year. The InTicketing buy represents Vendini's wider penetration of the live music sector. "Overnight, Vendini acquired a large portfolio of live music clients from rock and jazz clubs to [electronic dance music], as well as bands and artists and independent promoters," Weisz says.
