StubHub recently announced plans to produce and promote its own concerts. The eBay subsidiary is targeting 300- to 600-seat venues for its self-ticketed shows starting with 10 concerts that are part of "StubHub's Next Stage" concert series. The series includes five shows featuring emerging acts, and five free concerts produced in partnership with Pandora. Tickets for the first self-produced concert on May 18 in Los Angeles were available on StubHub for $60. The first free concert was on April 30 and featured Tokyo Police Club at Los Angeles' Boulevard 3. The other four ticketed shows will be held in Nashville, San Francisco, Chicago, and New York, and all will benefit the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation. StuhHub is entering a business dominated by Live Nation and its Ticketmaster subsidiary, and AEG also is a big player in promotion and ticketing at venues it owns through its AXS ticketing arm. StubHub's Michael Lattig says the move to ticketing its own concerts is not a "one-off" project. "This is about doing something that we can repeat and continue to bring around the country and deliver to fans in as many markets as makes sense," Lattig says.
