The three-day Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion music festival in Virginia and Tennessee will use a new RFID-based ticketing and access-control solution from Vendini. The system will require all people at the September 2014 event, including personnel, performers, and ticket holders, to wear RFID-enabled wristbands. The wristbands will be supplied by Vendini, which also will provide handheld and fixed high-frequency RFID readers and hosted software for managing access control and ticketing data. Vendini's Keith Goldberg says combining access control and ticketing functions on a single system can save money for festivals by avoiding the need to pay for various separate solutions. Moreover, he says audience members can pass through the entrance three to four times faster because they do not need to present a physical ticket to a staff member. Goldberg notes the Vendini system can identify an individual in the system associated with a particular wristband along with that person's access details. He points out that once attached, the wristband is intended to be worn during the entire event and cannot be removed without it being deactivated. If a single individual is purchasing tickets for himself and his friends, he can hand out the wristbands to those friends, and all wristband holders would need to go online and register themselves.
