U.K. startup Songkick currently draws 8.5 million people to its website and mobile apps each month, versus 5 million in March 2012. The Songkick Concerts mobile app has been a key driver of that expansion, having launched on the iPhone in June 2011 and then on the Android a year later. However, although CEO Ian Hogarth says more than half of Songkick users are using the app on mobile devices, only 20 percent of those users purchase tickets from their phone, mainly because Songkick's ticketing partners do not support sites that are optimized for mobile. In-app ticketing is now offered by Songkick with the recent launch of version 3.0 of its iPhone app, and Hogarth estimates that potentially five times as many people will buy tickets via mobile once ticketing is integrated within the mobile experience. Version 3.0 of the app also represents the first time people will store their credit card data with Songkick itself. Hogarth says Songkick aims to shake up the live music industry incrementally, noting "for us, the outcome is not so much disruption of the traditional way of doing things in ticketing, but more a disruption of concert attendance: doubling or tripling the number of people who go to shows, and expanding the industry."
