AEG and MGM Resorts International unveiled the first images of a $350 million sports and entertainment arena planned for the Las Vegas Strip, and construction of the 20,000-seat arena is expected to start in April, according to AEG. When it is finished in early 2016, the arena will be available to host professional basketball and hockey, although at this point it lacks affiliated teams. The arena also is expected to host concerts, boxing, mixed martial arts, family shows, award shows, and other major events. There will be a heavy concentration on VIP features for the venue, which will feature diverse premium seating and hospitality areas for entertaining and private events. The lowest level will provide multiple "bunker" clubs and suites, zones reserved for sponsors, and VIP drop-off areas with private lobbies. The arena is designed to support an 85-foot-high atrium and outside balconies, as well as an expansive glass facade with an overlay of light-emitting diode illumination and an outdoor performance stage. AEG reports that its affiliate, AEG Global Partnerships, has initiated the process of selling naming rights, sponsorships, and premium seating for the arena, which is expected to host more than 100 events per year. The arena, similar in size to the Staples Center in Los Angeles, is the centerpiece of efforts to revitalize the Las Vegas Boulevard.
