Live Nation Entertainment announced that it will serve locally grown foods, including vegetarian meals, certified under animal welfare programs recognized by the U.S. Humane Society at its 38 owned and operated North American amphitheaters. Among the vegetarian options to be offered will be a signature meal created by prestigious chef Hugh Acheson, known for using local, sustainable, and organic food sources for his restaurants. Live Nation estimates that it sells more than 80,000 meals in its venues every summer, and while there may be brief intervals where supply chain problems make it infeasible to source locally grown produce and Certified Humane meat products, the company will strive to fully comply with the new standards. Any cost hikes related to the new policies will be absorbed by Live Nation, so music fans will not be forced to pay more for meals based on similar product size. "This is the first bold step to make food options healthier and easier on the conscience and concerts," says Depeche Mode musician Martin Gore. "Let's hope that the initiative is taken up by more companies and venues around the world."
