Florida State University this summer implemented 3D software to facilitate its football season ticket renewal process. In the past, assistant athletic director for ticket sales and operations Ben Zierden and colleagues would record thousands of requests in a three-ring binder and spend about a month trying to accommodate them. Fans found this process confusing and were often unsatisfied with seat changes. The new software enables fans to log into a password-protected website and view available seat options themselves. Furthermore, a "view from seat" option enables users to experience the vantage point of specific seats through 3D technology, so they can assess views of the field and scoreboard as well as the distance to aisles and exits. In addition to available seats at the fan's current donation level, the software can display the options with an increased contribution. "I don’t think people like being in the dark," says marketing and communications vice president Jerry Kutz. "The best thing about this is it gives people a choice. It gives the customer all the information they need to make the perfect choice for them." Moreover, Zierden says customer service is significantly improved, and the system has been so successful that the university is expanding it to include new season ticket holders.
