Since its creation in 2010, when 95 percent of startups were failing, Ticketbis has become the world's fastest growing secondary ticketing business. Ander Michelena and Jon Uriarte formed the company, which operates an online ticketing platform and has a presence in 40 countries. The pair were inspired by unused season tickets to sports events. They had a combined background in investment and private banking, which provided useful contacts for financing. Michelena and Uriarte sought programmers in the Basque Country, the location of their hometowns, and learned how important it was to obtain the right talent for a business venture. Ticketbis has about 350 employees and operates across Europe, North and South America, Australia, and New Zealand, and is expanding in Asia. The company hopes to reach the regions in the world where the secondary ticketing market has a much lower profile than in Europe. “We've grown purely online through things like search engine optimization and search engine marketing, but we plan to use offline advertising and official partnerships to go much deeper,” Michelena and Uriarte say.
