Text-to-Buy Initiative Boosts Ticket Sales for Pistons, PS&E

A new text message-based ticket sales initiative proved so successful in raising sales for Detroit Pistons games that Palace Sports & Entertainment (PS&E) has expanded it to additional venues. In the fortnight since the Mobile Pass text-to-buy service was launched, PS&E has sold approximately 100 event tickets, with the Pistons moving about 1,000 single-game tickets with the service. Anyone can enroll in the instant service, which sends tailored texts about events at the Palace of Auburn Hills, DTE Energy Music Theater, and Meadow Brook Music Festival as early as 48 hours before the start. "We're trying to capture that walk-up purchaser, someone that's on the fence about coming to the game," says PS&E's Mike Donnay. After setting up an account with event/team preference, users can purchase tickets by replying to the text and confirming it on a one-touch link. Users can enter their credit card data in their profile, or enter it for each transaction. Users receive tickets as both a printable email and as a quick response code on their phone that can be scanned at the gate on their mobile device. The purpose of Mobile Pass is for teams and venues to move unpurchased ticket stock, and they can generate ticketing campaigns based on the inventory they want to sell and fan profile database.
