Ticketfly recently acquired Northern Tickets, a Vancouver, British Columbia-based ticket provider and owner of numerous Canadian venues. It is now the official ticketing partner of 120 venues and promoters in Canada, including Vancouver's Vogue Theatre, the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, and the Adelaide Hall in Toronto. "We love the ability to do deals like this," says Ticketfly co-founder and CEO Andrew Dreskin. "We buy Northern Tickets and pick up six fantastic venues in one fell swoop." The acquisition makes Ticketfly a competitor with Ticketmaster: Canada. Ticketfly uses its software capabilities to manage the venue's website, email marketing campaigns, and social media marketing. Ticketfly offers venues a portfolio of services such as a point-of-sale payment system that integrates with a concert hall's bar and restaurant, enabling consumers to pay tabs from their phones. The company also is developing tools to help promoters. "We're on the precipice of a reimagined live event industry," says Dreskin, who previously helped start online ticketing pioneer TicketWeb, which Ticketmaster acquired in 2000. "We have a big part in pushing that agenda forward." In August, Ticketfly acquired WillCall, part of the new smartphone experience the company will be highlighting later this year.
