Ticketfly has acquired WillCall, an Android-enabled concert discovery, ticketing, and in-venue commerce application. The app could enable Ticketfly to penetrate the live music sector as it gravitates toward cashless events and the associated data. "We tell people we’re not a ticketing company, our goal is to build or buy interesting technologies to layer in around the ticketing transaction," says Ticketfly founder Andrew Dreskin. "We see the WillCall asset as another step on that continuum; it’s about being at the forefront of changing how people experience live events.” WillCall is a social-driven app that contains a curated list of events in various major U.S. cities, coupled with a payments function. "We figured out that to accelerate what we wanted to build, and get it into as many hands as possible, we thought this could be a great fit with Ticketfly and their 1,300 venues, and that’s where we are today,” says WillCall founder Donnie Dinch. WillCall's payment functionality allows fans to open tabs from their mobile phones, as well as close out by exiting through the door. WillCall's revenue is derived from a small fee included as part of the ticket price, and Dinch says in-venue transactions offer more revenue potential. "We think there's potential monetization around [customer data], as well," he notes.
