Peatix, which provides a platform for event organizers in Asia to manage ticket sales, closed a Series A funding round for $3 million. The startup, launched in May 2011, already has 10,000 events on its platform. Peatix just launched its services in the United States and is expanding to Singapore, where it will face competition from Sistic, the dominant ticket provider in the country. "There are incumbent ticketing companies in each country, and that is the same in the U.S. and in Japan," says co-founder Emi Takemura, who is moving to Singapore to head up that office. "We grew for the past two years with little conflict with traditional ticketing companies in Japan, because there is a large volume of non-traditional events that can benefit from online registration.” Nontraditional events include smaller venues, and parties and meetups put on by independent organizers. With those kinds of events growing in Peatix's three markets, it expects to support 30,000 to 50,000 events over the next year.
